ABOUT

McKinley James

McKinley James is originally from New Iberia, Louisiana. He is currently a Partner at The James Firm LLC. A law firm started by him and his wife, Taylor James. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a Juris Doctorate degree from Southern University Law Center. As a practicing Attorney, McKinley has advocated for the rights of children and parents involved in the states foster care system. He has also facilitated many real estate transactions, often including first time homebuyers.

McKinley is a member of the Louisiana Bar Association. He is also the President of the Louis A Martinet Legal Society Greater Lafayette and a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.

In his spare time Mckinley enjoys spending time with his wife, Taylor James, and his son Mack James. He also enjoys reading, traveling, and playing pickup basketball.

Improvements to the foster care system
  • Increased support for foster families

  • Advocate for more resources to State agencies to help with monitoring of current child placements.

  • Addressing strategies for tackling opioid addiction. Including increased addiction treatment and support for affected families.

  • I would advocate for policies designed to help children in areas such as education, healthcare, and quality of life.

Business Focus
  • I am dedicated to creating an environment where small businesses can not only survive but truly strive within District 39. Through targeted support of streamlined regulations, and access to resources, I aim to empower local entrepreneurs to grow, create jobs, and contribute to our economy. Together we can build a stronger foundation that form the backbone of our community.

Infrastructure Developments 
  • I am committed to fostering strong partnerships with city governments, within District 39, to serve as a valuable resource in our legislature. By working closely with local leaders and officials, I aim to bring expertise, insights, and community perspectives to the legislative process.
